Dixon ring, also known as θ-ring packing, is a small particle laboratory packing made of metal wire mesh, with a diameter equal to the height of the packing. Due to the capillary action of the metal wire mesh, the liquid can be well dispersed into a film, which is conducive to sufficient mass and heat transfer between gas and liquid, and can significantly reduce the heat dissipation and remove unstable phenomena such as gully flow.

The pressure drop of the daily ring packing is related to the gas velocity, the density of the liquid spray system, surface tension, viscosity, and the characteristics of the packing, as well as the pre flooding treatment capacity of the packing. The amount of residual material in the daily ring filler is larger than that of similar solid fillers, and the surface wettability is also better than that of the same type of filler
The porcelain ring is complete and has a high film-forming rate, resulting in higher separation efficiency. The theoretical plate number of daily ring packing decreases with the increase of packing size and tower diameter, which is more obvious for the packing of small diameter towers. The increase of tower diameter leads to a significant decrease in the theoretical plate number (HETP=0.8~1.2DR when DR/D>10, while the packing efficiency significantly decreases when DR/D>70).

Various distillation and fractionation towers/columns/tubes are indispensable in laboratory separation experiments.
