The three-way catalytic converter is the most important external purification device installed in the automotive exhaust system. The carrier component is a porous ceramic material installed in a specially designed exhaust pipe. It is called a carrier because it does not participate in catalytic reactions, but is covered with a layer of precious metals such as platinum, rhodium, palladium, etc. It can convert HC and CO in exhaust gas into water and CO2, while decomposing NOx into nitrogen and oxygen.

1. A three-way catalytic converter refers to a device installed in the engine exhaust pipeline that can simultaneously convert three pollutants (carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx)) in the engine exhaust into harmless water (H20), carbon dioxide (CO2), and nitrogen (N2) through oxidation and reduction reactions. As an effective external purification technology, it is widely used in the control of automotive pollutant emissions.
2. When high-temperature automobile exhaust passes through the purification device, the purification agent in the three-way catalytic converter will enhance the activity of co, hc, and nox gases, prompting them to undergo certain oxidation-reduction chemical reactions. Among them, co is oxidized to colorless and non-toxic carbon dioxide gas at high temperature; Hc compounds oxidize into water (h20) and carbon dioxide at high temperatures; NOx is reduced to nitrogen and oxygen. Three harmful gases are transformed into harmless gases, enabling the purification of car exhaust.
