The main working principle of ceramic foam filter is to make the fluffy and billowing liquid metal become stable, uniform and clean liquid metal after passing through foam ceramic honeycomb holes. The unique honeycomb structure can adsorb some small particle impurities in steel (iron) water, such as non-metallic particles, slag, refractory material fragments, etc. into the filter. Secondly, the smooth metal laminar flow fills the model better, on the one hand, it overflows gas, on the other hand, it reduces erosion on the model, and reduces the product scrap rate. Therefore, it is possible to improve the metallographic structure and mechanical properties of castings, produce high-quality precision castings, reduce the scrap rate of castings, reduce tool wear during casting processing, and significantly increase economic and social benefits.
Ceramic foam filter is just developed as a new type of molten metal filters to decrease casting flaw in recent years. It is made from high quality ceramic materials, whose main components are Al2O3, Sic, ZrO2, MgO etc.All the three types filters are available in square, round and custom geometric shapes; sizes ranging from 10mm up to 600mm, and thicknesses from 10-50mm. Pore densities from 10-60 pores per inch are available.

Instructions for use of foam ceramic filter plate:
Step 1. Check and clean the surface debris of the filter box to keep it clean and undamaged. Gently place the filter plate into the filter box and manually press the sealing gasket around the filter plate to prevent aluminum liquid from flowing or floating.
Step 2. Preheat the filter box and filter plate evenly to bring them close to the temperature of the aluminum liquid. The preheating temperature of the filter plate should not be lower than 260 ºC. Preheating to remove adsorbed moisture helps to instantly open the initial filter aperture and prevent partial pore blockage caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the filter plate. Preheating can be done using electric or gas heating, with normal heating lasting 15-30 minutes.
Step 3. During casting, pay attention to the changes in the aluminum hydraulic head and maintain normal flow control of the required amount of aluminum liquid. The normal starting pressure head is 100-150mm.
Step 4: When the aluminum liquid begins to pass through, the pressure head will decrease to below 75-100mm, and then gradually increase. During the normal filtering process, avoid hitting or vibrating the filter plate. At the same time, the flow channel should be filled with aluminum water to avoid disturbances from the aluminum liquid that are too large or too small.
Step 5: After the filtration is completed, promptly remove the filter plate and clean the filter box.
